A lab in the Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Program at Fred Hutch that studies hematopoietic stem cell biology and develops novel gene therapy and gene editing strategies is recruiting a Post Doctoral Research Fellow.

Requirements

  • MD or PhD in a biology, genetics, immunology or related scientific field.
  • Knowledge of advanced tissue assays, i.e. immunohistochemistry/in situ and multicolor flow cytometry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in genetic diseases.
  • Background in stem cell biology or immunology is highly desired.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: hematopoietic stem cell cultures/model systems, in vivo studies, and/or immunohistochemistry.
  • Previous experience in gene therapy/gene editing, and/or molecular biology techniques e.g. quantitative PCR and cloning is desired, but not required.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently to design and execute experiments.
  • High level of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize work at short notice.
  • Capable of working independently in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

Responsibilities

  • Study and develop novel methods to genetically modify hematopoietic stem cells for genetic diseases like sickle cell disease, Fanconi anemia and others.
  • Work closely with the PI and other senior members of the research team, as well as with external collaborators.
  • Work closely with diverse study personnel.
  • Publish and present their work in both internal and external events.
