About The Position

The Department of Bioengineering in the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of biomedical engineering (imaging, bioinstrumentation or nanotechnology). The successful candidate will join a research lab focused on developing advanced imaging technologies that overcome fundamental depth–resolution limitations in biological tissues. The research integrates hybrid ultrasound–optical imaging, contrast agent design, and computational reconstruction, with applications in deep-tissue imaging, tumor microenvironment characterization, and functional sensing. This position offers a highly interdisciplinary environment at the interface of biophotonics, ultrasound, nanomaterials, and imaging physics, with opportunities to lead independent research directions and contribute to high-impact publications and future grant proposals.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biomaterials, Nanotechnology, or a closely related field, with expertise in imaging, instrumentation, or nanomaterials.
  • Strong background in at least one of the following areas: Optical imaging / biophotonics, Ultrasound imaging or acoustics, Nanomaterials / contrast agents, Signal processing or computational imaging
  • Demonstrated research productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hybrid imaging systems (e.g., ultrasound–optical, photoacoustic, or related modalities)
  • Experience with stimuli-responsive nanomaterials (e.g., thermosensitive liposomes, polymer nanoparticles, microgels)
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or similar platforms
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation, electronics, or system integration
  • Ability or interest in leading independent research directions

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in biomedical imaging and bioengineering
  • Design and perform experiments involving optical imaging, ultrasound systems, and/or contrast agents
  • Develop computational models and reconstruction algorithms for imaging systems
  • Analyze experimental data and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • Contribute to proposal development and interdisciplinary research initiatives
  • Performs other duties as needed
