About The Position

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Min H. Kao Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) to conduct research in computer vision and machine learning in support of existing and future funded research. The postdoctoral researcher will work as part of a multi-institutional research team, developing, training, and evaluating computer vision and deep learning models for advanced computer vision tasks. This is a unique opportunity to contribute novel research while building a research portfolio in fast-growing areas of computer vision and building collaborations.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • Demonstrated research experience in computer vision and/or machine learning, including hands-on development of deep learning models using modern frameworks.
  • Track-record of publishing at top computer vision (CVPR/ICCV/ECCV) and machine learning (ICML/ICLR/NeurIPS) conferences.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Solid understanding of deep learning architectures (e.g., CNNs, transformers) applied to visual recognition and video understanding tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present technical work.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate computer vision and deep learning algorithms for object detection, identification, tracking, and re-identification across non-collaborative, multi-camera video sources.
  • Curate, preprocess, and manage large-scale video and image datasets used for model training and evaluation.
  • Document methods and results; contribute to technical reports, program deliverables, and briefings for sponsors.
