Post Doctoral Fellow (Horstick Lab) - Department of Biology
About The Position
The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under the leadership of Eric Horstick, the incumbent in this position will conduct research in the field of Biology. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible position. Prospective postdoctoral fellows will design and conduct research, support student training, and animal facility operations in the Horstick Lab in the area of neural plasticity using fish as a model system. The individual will be expected to generate research products (data and manuscripts) consistent with the expectations of an R1 research institution.
Requirements
- PhD in basic or biomedical sciences is required, focus in neuroscience preferred.
- First author publication in a recognized and peer-reviewed journal within the field of biological sciences
- Presentation at regional and/or national conferences
- Animal research protocols and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to effectively use excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Demonstrated ability to write and publish scientific manuscripts
- Demonstrated ability to be successful in a R1 level research environment

- Preferred experience with aquatic model systems
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct rigorous scientific experiments that use sophisticated equipment and genetic tools
- Analyze, present, assimilate, and write scientific literature
- Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in the lab
- Support operations of zebrafish facility and animal health
