About The Position
A postdoctoral position is available in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The Knipe Lab is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic post-doctoral candidate for a funded project focused on understanding the mechanisms of vascular biology, lung injury, and lung fibrosis. The research specifically investigates endothelial cell dysfunction in the context of fibrotic lung diseases such as scleroderma-associated ILD and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The project involves both animal modeling of lung disease (mice) and in vitro cell culture work using human microvascular endothelial cells. The position is funded for three years, starting in 2026.
Requirements
- Hands-on expertise in molecular biology and in vivo disease models
- Track record of significant contributions to research projects and scientific publications
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a highly collaborative team
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, or a related discipline with 0-1 year of relevant post-graduate experience
- Mouse handling, husbandry, and disease modeling including dissection and tissue harvesting
- Aseptic technique and in vitro culture of mammalian cells
- Proficiency with molecular biology techniques including western blotting and qRT-PCR
Nice To Haves
- Experience with multiple routes of drug delivery
- Experience with primary cell isolation
- Experience with 3D cultures
- Exposure to basics of histology and microscopy including widefield and confocal imaging
- Exposure to flow cytometry and cell sorting
- Exposure to large data set analysis and/or bioinformatics
Responsibilities
- Apply scientific expertise and judgment to design, execute, analyze, and document in vitro and in vivo studies to define the role of endothelial dysfunction and vascular permeability in the development of fibrosis.
