About The Position

The Badawi lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center's Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics is looking for a postdoctoral neuroscientist to study cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurological function and disease. The focus of this training position is to characterize synaptic physiology, mechanisms of dysfunction, and biomarker identification in disease-relevant contexts. The research is hosted in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.

Requirements

  • PhD in Neuroscience
  • Experience working with rodent models, microscopy, proteomics, and performing molecular biology techniques including PCR, immunoblotting, and immunostaining
  • Collect and analyze data for publications and grant proposals and assisting in day-to-day operations in the laboratory
  • Mentorship experience of junior technicians and trainees within a laboratory setting

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in studying pathological changes in neurodegenerative disorders
  • Experience in molecular and cellular biology, neurodegenerative diseases, data evaluation and interpretation, data presentation and scientific writing skills
  • Experience with handling laboratory animals, performing behavioral studies, evaluating mitochondrial health, and conducting and analyzing proteomics data
  • Experience in design and performance of experiments, making graphs, doing statistics, and interpretation and dissemination of data

Responsibilities

  • Lead and actively participate in the design, planning, and execution of research experiments aimed at addressing core mechanistic questions in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with the goal of developing neural circuit-based therapeutic strategies
  • Conduct independent research, interpret experimental results and analyze data generated from their studies.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications, reports, and manuscripts
  • Maintain rodent colonies and animal care and perform experiments involving tissue collection, live imaging and recordings
  • Contribute to establishing and maintaining laboratory records, including experimental data and protocols
  • Assist in training other laboratory personnel in experimental techniques and best practices
