About The Position

The Post-Doctoral Fellow provides brief, time-limited psychotherapy related to issues of personal, academic, and social adjustment to a multiculturally diverse student population while under the supervision of licensed psychologists. The Post-Doctoral Fellow is also responsible for crisis intervention, consultation, referral, outreach, and scheduled 24-hour emergency consultation. In addition, the Post-Doctoral Fellow has an administrative role in the advanced practicum program and provides clinical supervision to one or more practicum trainee(s). As part of the larger staff in Student Life, the Post-Doctoral Fellow collaborates and cooperates across divisions and departments to create a supportive University community which encourages student learning and development in the Jesuit Catholic tradition.

Requirements

  • Completion of doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (by the start date of the fellowship)
  • Able to begin accumulating supervised postdoctoral hours toward licensure
  • Completion of Doctoral level psychology internship(s)

Responsibilities

  • Provides brief, time-limited psychotherapy and clinical assessment, approximately 20 direct service hours per week (including triage, intake, and crisis assessment; individual, couples, and group psychotherapy; provision of supervision; outreach, and consultation)
  • Provides crisis intervention services, including assessing suicidal or homicidal risk.
  • Makes appropriate referrals and/or facilitates off-campus hospitalization, as needed.
  • Position is live-on in order to respond to mental health emergencies during after hour and Evening/Weekends.
  • Maintains timely and thorough documentation of case files; maintains knowledge of ethical principles as articulated by the American Psychological Association and California laws of the profession and provides all services in keeping with these standards.
  • Executes CAPS administrative and training program duties as assigned including coordination of practicum seminar and practicum orientation, facilitation of peer consultation and coordination of summer media series for internship program, and oversight of practicum program feedback.
  • Develops and presents subject matter for practicum and other training seminars.
  • Provides clinical supervision of practicum trainee(s) in conjunction with primary licensed supervisor; reviews and provides constructive feedback on intakes, progress notes, termination summaries, and video recorded sessions, generates mid and end-of-year written evaluations for individual supervisees.
  • Designs and implements outreach programs and participates in outreach seminar
  • Provides consultation and mental health information to university community (students/faculty/staff/families)
  • Represents the center at campus events and serves on campus-wide committees as requested.
  • Participates in seminars and/other training program activities based on training needs
  • Participates in weekly Case Conference meeting
  • Receives 4.5 hours/week of direct supervision from primary and delegated supervisor(s); 10% of total weekly hours
  • Participates in weekly quality assurance staff meeting
  • Fulfills other tasks as assigned
