About The Position

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to support our research on building energy systems for building sustainability and resilience. This is a one-year position with the possibility of a one-year extension. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026, or shortly earlier. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct the following research: (1) large-scale building energy modeling for natural hazard resilience; (2) occupancy behaviors and occupant-centric controls; and (3) advanced AI techniques for building performance research. Additional responsibilities include preparing project reports, scholarly publications, and research proposals. The role also involves close collaboration with research partners in academia and national laboratories, and the fellow may be required to conduct additional activities to support key projects and the establishment of the research group.

Requirements

  • A PhD in a related field (civil engineering, construction engineering, architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related fields).
  • Strong publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with one or more of the following: EnergyPlus, GenAI, and large-scale parallel computing.
  • Prior experience in mentoring graduate/undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting the research described above
  • Prepare research manuscripts and technical reports
  • Assist with mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students and training of research collaborators
  • Assist with preparing research proposals resulting from the conducted research
