About The Position

The Rowley Lab is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Scientist to join their team within the platelet and thrombo-inflammation group at the University of Utah. The candidate will research how genetics and genomics influence platelet function, bleeding, and clot formation. The candidate will be responsible for developing and utilizing cutting-edge CRISPR /Cas9 approaches in primary human hematopoietic progenitors to evaluate gene functions and the effect of genetic variants in blood cells, including platelets and megakaryocytes. This will involve designing and conducting high throughput functional assays and pooled library screens followed by validation of findings in cell culture and mouse models. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to prepare themselves for academic or industry success through presentations, publications, grant writing, and exposure to a diverse range of scientific techniques and collaboration opportunities.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, or related field)
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques and cell culture.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of CRISPR /Cas9 gene editing technology and its applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with flow cytometry, lentivirus production, and mouse models preferred.
  • Prior experience with hematopoietic cells and/or platelet biology is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute CRISPR /Cas9-based experiments in primary human blood cells to evaluate gene functions and genetic variants in blood cells
  • Develop, optimize, and analyze high throughput functional assays and pooled library screens
  • Help with the validation of candidate variants and genes in mouse models
  • Analyze data using relevant software and present findings in internal and external meetings
  • Contribute to scientific publications and grant proposals
  • Collaborate with other members of the team and assist with training lab members
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and ensure compliance with laboratory safety guidelines
  • Present at relevant scientific conferences and meetings to stay current with the field.
