About The Position

The Office of Sponsored Programs at Virginia Tech is seeking a Post Award Associate of Sponsored Agreements Management to serve as part of a team of research administrators. The Post Award Associate (Research Administrator) advises and assists faculty and staff in award administration and ensures compliance with university and sponsor policies, procedures, and requirements. Responsibilities include portfolio management of awarded sponsored programs, ensuring proper stewardship and use of received resources, and the timely closeout in accordance with the terms of the award. Partners with Principal Investigators, departmental contacts, and funded sponsors in the effective administration of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. Works closely with the post award /assistant directors and team leaders in post award coordination and operations, and assists with team member training. This position will foster teamwork and collaboration, with demonstrated organizational skills and a high commitment to customer service by applying skills and experience to the review of research grants and agreements and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping/ accounting practices and/or budgeting.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or college coursework with emphasis on accounting, finance, or government/business regulations and administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of stakeholders, internal and external to the university.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Previous research administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with federal and nonfederal grants and/or contract regulations.
  • Project administration and/or project management experience, preferably in an academic or research setting.
