About The Position

The Portuguese/Spanish teacher will provide instruction in Portuguese and Spanish language to second language learners, as well as heritage speakers of the language, collaborate with teachers inside and outside the department, collaborate with families to support student progress, and maintain student data and as required by the department, school, or district. Requirements

  • At least Advanced Low level of proficiency in Spanish (native or native-like).
  • At least Intermediate High level of proficiency in Portuguese.
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Licensure Foreign Language - Portuguese.
  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • Strong knowledge base of current research about curriculum, instruction, and assessment in foreign language instruction and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts Common Core State Standards and state adopted standards, Instruction, and Assessment and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
  • Strong organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Effective computer skills.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of successful teaching experience, preferred.
  • Experience living in one or more Portuguese or Spanish speaking countries, preferred
  • Experience in providing professional development for teachers, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum content and standards-based curriculum
  • Provide instruction to second language and heritage learners on developed Portuguese and Spanish curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress using state and district-developed assessments and set student learning goals based on assessments.
  • Reflect on teaching and learning using quantitative and qualitative data and make curricular and instructional adjustments based on data.
  • Collaborate with World Language Department colleagues to analyze student and department data, and make ongoing programmatic improvements.
  • Collaborate and confer with families of students to support language learning and academic achievement
  • Maintain current professional knowledge regarding foreign language instruction through reading professional publications, attending professional conferences, and/or participating in other professional learning activities as approved by building administrators and/or the World Languages curriculum coordinator.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding personal and work/school related information for all students and staff of the district.
