About The Position

Our National Ports and Marine Team is seeking a part-time Ports and Marine Engineering Intern - Fall 2026 to work out of our Seattle, WA office.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with a graduation date of May 2026 or later.
  • Demonstrated interest in Ports & Marine or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SAP2000 and similar tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related, Master’s or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
  • Prior relevant internship, extracurricular and leadership involvement on campus.

Responsibilities

  • With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Assist with the development of project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
  • Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and providing input on mitigation activities.
  • Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software.
  • Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work. This includes working collaboratively with other engineers and larger multi-disciplinary teams, on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Complete all assigned trainings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
