About The Position

East West Bank, a premier financial institution with over 110 locations across the U.S. and Asia, is seeking a Portfolio Manager. This role supports the Tax Investment Manager in the underwriting, execution, and ongoing management of a diversified portfolio of tax credit investments, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Investment Tax Credits (ITC), solar/renewable energy credits, and other federal and state tax credit programs. The position involves financial modeling, due diligence coordination, transaction support, and portfolio monitoring to ensure timely delivery of tax benefits, compliance, and strong investment performance. The Associate will act as a key liaison between internal departments and external partners, maintaining operational efficiency and investment integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Real Estate, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in tax credit investing, real estate finance, renewable energy finance, community development finance, or related field.
  • Strong financial modeling and Excel proficiency (including discounted cash flow analysis, sensitivity modeling, partnership allocation principles).
  • Basic understanding of federal and state tax credit programs or willingness to learn rapidly.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly collaborative.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward CPA, CFA, or advanced degree is a plus.
  • Exposure to LIHTC or ITC programs preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing detailed financial models for LIHTC, ITC, and other tax credit investment opportunities.
  • Perform preliminary underwriting, including sponsor review, sources/uses validation, operating pro forma analysis, and tax benefit projections.
  • Conduct market and risk assessments to support investment feasibility.
  • Prepare initial investment screens, memos, and sensitivity cases for review with the Tax Investment Manager.
  • Coordinate project-level due diligence, gathering and organizing financial, legal, and technical documents.
  • Assist with the review of partnership agreements, operating agreements, guaranty provisions, and related closing documents.
  • Work with internal departments (Legal, Finance, Risk, Accounting) to ensure timely responses and follow-up actions.
  • Support the Tax Investment Manager in closing activities, including checklists, document tracking, and communication with developers and syndicators.
  • Track construction, lease-up, and operating performance metrics for the investment portfolio.
  • Review quarterly reports, audited financial statements, cost certifications, and tax credit delivery schedules.
  • Flag emerging risks or variances and escalate findings to the Tax Investment Manager.
  • Maintain up-to-date portfolio dashboards, compliance logs, and internal reporting tools.
  • Assist in verifying tax credit deliverability, eligibility requirements, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for tax compliance teams and external auditors.
  • Monitor deadlines for reporting, regulatory submissions, and capital contributions.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping across all investment and compliance systems.
  • Serve as a day-to-day contact for developers, syndicators, consultants, and internal partners.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare presentation materials, and maintain organized data repositories.
  • Support ad hoc analysis and special projects as requested by the Tax Investment Manager or senior leadership.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
