About The Position

The Portfolio Manager I manages a portfolio of direct and indirect asset-based credit facilities (typically 10-12 accounts) and provides back-up on other Portfolio Manager's accounts. Spread financial information, assess and validate financial and collateral trends, and calculate financial covenants. Responsible for preparing periodic credit reviews and processing modification approvals for waivers, amendments, renewals and extensions, negotiate pricing and fees, and review loan documents. Interact directly with client or agent banks and represent Flagstar Bank.

Requirements

  • High School / High School Equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) / Foreign Equivalent
  • Minimum 4+ Years in Asset Based Lending
  • Moody’s Risk Analyst Spread System or similar spreading tools.
  • Requires strong written communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to evaluate financial and collateral trends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospects, intermediaries and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders by communicating clearly, engaging in proactive collaboration, and leveraging cross functional insights. Aligns relationship building efforts with enterprise goals to accelerate performance and drive strategic results.
  • Builds trusted client relationships, whether internal or external, by identifying needs and delivering tailored solutions to enhance the overall client experience.
  • Fosters or supports a positive work culture and productive work environment, displaying importance of effective relationships with customers and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, Economics.
  • Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent work experience if applicable
  • Bank Credit Training or Field Exam experience

Responsibilities

  • Process quarterly and annual credit reviews for senior management and 2LOD.
  • Process modification approvals for waivers, amendments, renewals and extensions.
  • Validate borrowing base availability and collateral.
  • Approve funding requests and Stucky.
  • Spread financial information.
  • Engage field examiner and appraisers; provide guidance to scope of exam, review reports.
  • Uses independent judgement and discretion to make ABL credit decisions and recommendations.
  • May be responsible for talent management functions including: staff development/training of Credit Analysts.
  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
