About The Position

Bank of Marin is seeking a Portfolio Manager - Construction to join their Construction Lending team in Novato, California. This role involves maintaining a high degree of customer service through the examination, evaluation, and recommendation of customer applications for construction and commercial real estate loans. The position focuses on developing and managing moderately complex construction loan accounts to meet lending requirements, maximize bank profitability, and minimize construction risk within a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
  • Maintain a high degree of customer service.
  • Develop and manage moderately complex construction loan accounts.
  • Accurately underwrite and recommend moderately complex construction and commercial real estate loans.
  • Accurately complete the bank-standard Credit reports.
  • Identify and access strengths of primary and secondary sources of repayment.
  • Identify and assess key credit risks and mitigating factors.
  • Recommend and support credit structures that monitor and mitigate key credit risks.
  • Independently ascertain feasibility of construction projects.
  • Develop new business by contracting prospects and customers.
  • Cross-sell bank services.
  • Make site visits.
  • Participate in joint calls with senior officers and others.
  • Interact with title and insurance companies.
  • Review construction inspections.
  • Monitor draw requests.
  • Prepare and complete all reports necessary to track project status and compliance with Bank guidelines.
  • Identify problem credits and help to collect or restructure the credit.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and independently analyze moderately complex construction and commercial real estate loan requests using established underwriting guidelines, recommending approval or decline.
  • Articulate credit recommendations by accurately completing bank-standard Credit reports.
  • Identify and assess the strengths of primary and secondary sources of repayment for moderately complex construction and commercial real estate credits.
  • Identify and assess key credit risks and their mitigating factors sufficiently to recommend loan commitment approval.
  • Recommend and support credit structures that monitor and mitigate key credit risks.
  • Ascertain the feasibility of construction projects, including marketability for commercial residential, mixed-use, commercial income, and spec residential properties.
  • Develop new business by contacting prospects and customers, and cross-selling bank services.
  • Make site visits and participate in joint calls with senior officers and others.
  • Interact with title and insurance companies to ensure the Bank’s position is protected by appropriate title insurance, endorsements, and adequate insurance during and upon completion of construction.
  • Review construction inspections and, with the assistance of the construction loan administrator, monitor draw requests to ensure sufficient funds remain to complete the project.
  • Prepare and complete all necessary reports in a timely manner to track project status and compliance with Bank guidelines.
  • Identify problem credits as needed and assist in collection or restructuring to protect bank and borrower assets.
