About The Position

One River School of Art + Design is seeking a part-time Portfolio Development Art Teacher to teach and mentor motivated portfolio development students in a creative community. The teacher delivers weekly art and portfolio development instruction using a wide variety of media and implements the One River Methodology curriculum. Teachers may contribute to lesson-plan development, with additional pay for that work. The role includes supporting student progress in the studio and lab, keeping studio spaces and student artwork organized, and preparing students to produce high-quality exhibition work. The position offers 3–10 hours per week, with afternoon and evening hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Compensation is $25–$30 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Requirements

BA/BS in Visual Art, Art Education, or Design, or equivalent professional experience.
At least 5 years of experience teaching visual arts.
Strong understanding of professional portfolio development.
Track record of high-quality instruction, classroom management, and student progress.
Clear communication and organizational skills.
Enthusiasm for a busy studio environment.
Passion for art history and contemporary art, with a students-first mindset.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

Teach weekly art and portfolio development using a wide variety of media.
Engage with students and teachers to observe, document, and communicate student progress and opportunities for growth.
Implement the One River Methodology curriculum in each class.
Contribute to lesson-plan development, if desired; this work is paid extra.
Clean and organize studio spaces and student artwork.
Direct students in producing high-quality work for exhibitions and track progress to ensure exhibition work is completed on time.
