About The Position

Orlando Health is a large healthcare system with multiple hospitals and various medical services. The Porter position is responsible for the general maintenance and cleaning of hard-surfaced floors, walls, windows, doors, drains, counters, and food service equipment, including kitchen coolers, store rooms, dining areas, and the cafeteria. This role also involves assisting with non-patient food services, managing trash receptacles, moving furniture and equipment, and stocking supplies. The position requires effective communication with team leaders and supervisors, modeling excellent service behaviors, and maintaining regular attendance and compliance with all Orlando Health policies. Additionally, the Porter participates in departmental meetings, follows cleaning and sanitation procedures, and interacts appropriately with a diverse population. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change, work rotating shifts, and be cross-trained are essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.

Responsibilities

  • General maintenance and cleaning of hard-surfaced floors, walls, windows, doors, drains, counters, and food service equipment.
  • Cleaning kitchen coolers, store rooms, dining areas, and the cafeteria.
  • Assisting with non-patient food services as needed.
  • Ensuring all trash receptacles are emptied and cleaned.
  • Moving furniture, equipment, and other items as required.
  • Stocking food, paper, and beverage supplies, using proper shelf rotation procedures.
  • Communicating proper information regarding patient, non-patient or departmental needs to Group Leaders, Food Service Supervisors or the Support Services Manager.
  • Modeling essential service behaviors, such as excellent communication and customer service skills with patients, nursing staff, and visitors.
  • Maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Participating in monthly departmental meetings and all related inservices.
  • Observing all departmental rules and regulations.
  • Following outlined cleaning procedures of patient tray delivery carts as needed.
  • Assisting in dishroom area as needed.
  • Awareness and adherence to all universal precautions as they apply to food services.
  • Awareness and adherence to all Food Borne Illness prevention and sanitation requirements.
  • Interacting appropriately with a culturally diverse population.
  • Following chain of command when communicating departmental and individual concerns or problems.
  • Working consistently to exceed the department’s and Orlando Health’s objectives by reporting concerns and suggesting creative ideas.
  • Embracing, encouraging, and driving change; approaching situations and challenges with an open mind.
  • Working rotating shifts according to experience and business needs.
  • Being able and willing to be cross-trained in varied positions.
  • Performing any and all other duties as assigned.
