About The Position

Marquette, headquartered in Paducah, Kentucky and founded in 1978, is a leading provider of inland marine transportation services. Our Company operates over 130 towboats on the Mississippi River System, Gulf-Intracoastal Waterway, and near-shore coastwise market. In addition, the Company controls over 1,000 dry cargo barges. The Company has additional offices in St Rose, LA, Lockport, LA and La Porte, TX. With over 1,800 vessel and shore-based employees, Marquette is the largest provider of independent towing services within the inland waterways. We are the only fully integrated fleet in the industry that can do what we do.

Requirements

  • Marine Engineering or related technical degree preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of marine mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent driving record and ability to travel up to 60%.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and TWIC card.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of USCG and Sub Chapter M rules and regulations, preferred.
  • Knowledge of ZF Marine Z drive units, twin Disc, Reintjes, Faulk reduction gears a plus.
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, EMD, Mitsubishi engines preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide shore side and on-board engineering support to vessel fleet (Mechanical, electrical, HVAC, general repairs, and technical support).
  • Support and coach shore-side Mechanics and Vessel Engineers.
  • Assist Project Manager with machinery and equipment for replacement and new construction.
  • Assist Project Manager with developing specifications for new construction projects or repowers.
  • Assist with development of maintenance and repair projections for vessels.
  • Directly supervise as needed dry-dockings and major repairs and manage all associated costs/RFQ’s.
  • Visit vessels in operation for repair and preventive maintenance planning and maintaining annual inspections, quarterly inspections, and vessel crew training.
  • Assist in advanced troubleshooting of machinery and equipment as required.
  • Communicate and coordinate all work and plans with other departments (Port Captains, VQSE’s, Purchasing, Inventory Manager).
  • Travel as needed to vessels in performance of duties, including out-of-town stays.
  • Must be willing to stand on call weekend/evening duty rotation.
  • Observe and follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment and proper use of equipment and tools.
  • Support and manage oil sample analysis reports for your assigned vessels.
  • Manage all work orders and purchase orders with your assigned operating vessels (Daily).
  • Manage all observations and deficiencies for your assigned vessels (Daily).
