About The Position

Responsible for the overall operation of the swimming pool, including water quality, supervision of lifeguards, collection of fees, work schedules, and general maintenance and cleaning. The Pool Manager reports to the Division Chief and Superintendent, and supervises the Assistant Pool Manager and Lifeguards. This role implements and monitors programs, procedures, and policies related to the operation of a County pool. Essential functions include assigning work, scheduling employees, training employees in work methods and procedures, addressing inadequate performance, and referring discipline and serious performance problems to a supervisor. The position also involves maintaining water quality, performing routine cleaning of the pool and bathhouse, requisitioning and maintaining stock of chemicals and supplies, collecting fees, maintaining reports on fees, attendance, and water quality, enforcing pool safety rules and regulations, and overseeing the daily opening and closing of the pool. Lifeguard duties may also be performed. Other duties include attending weekly training sessions and performing related work as required.

Requirements

  • Two seasons as a lifeguard.
  • Current Maryland Pool Operator’s license.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid & CPR/AED certificate.
  • Must be age 18 or have work permit.
  • Subject to background investigation.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, or current enrollment as a high school student.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors programs, procedures and policies related to the operation of a County pool.
  • Assigns work to employees; schedules work and employees; trains employees in work methods and procedures; takes steps to correct inadequate performance; refers discipline and serious performance problems to a supervisor.
  • Maintains water quality at acceptable levels.
  • Supervises and performs routine cleaning of pool, bathhouse and related areas.
  • Requisitions and maintains adequate stock of chemicals and supplies necessary to maintain cleanliness of water and pool areas.
  • Collects or ensures proper collection of fees; maintains all reports related to fees, attendance and water quality as required by the Recreation Division and the Health Department.
  • Enforces all rules and regulations as they relate to pool safety.
  • Oversees the daily opening and closing of the pool.
  • Performs lifeguard duties.
  • Attends weekly training sessions.
  • Performs related work as required.
