About The Position

As a Polysomnographic or “Sleep” Technician, you will find the answers to your patient’s sleep problems and disorders. You will prepare the sleep lab and perform basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies. You will monitor brain waves, eye movements, oxygen levels, heart rate and breathing during sleep stages and cycles. You are a sleep sleuth who gets excited when you find the key to your patient’s health issue and peace of mind. Requirements

  • Graduate of CAAHEP Polysomnography Program or a minimum of 6 months of experience in sleep medicine or respiratory procedures.
  • Licensed Polysomnographic Tech - Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists
  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) - American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform sleep studies including procedures like Electroencephalograms, Electrooculogram, Electromyogram, Respiratory effort, Airflow, Oximetry, End Tidal, PAP Device flow, etc.
  • Provide a clear and precise explanation of the procedure to the patient and/or responsible person present.
  • Recognize documents and eliminate artifacts and take proper measures to monitor suspected artifacts.
  • Obtain at least 10 CEUs directly related to sleep yearly.
  • Stay abreast of new equipment and software implemented by the department and/or hospital.
  • Maintain and clean equipment immediately after use and ensures equipment is in proper working order.
  • Apply troubleshooting methods, repairs and/or replaces instrument parts as needed with immediate notification to the manager.
  • Communicate with technical support during troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of universal precautions when delivering patient care and perform appropriate isolation techniques for patients as needed.
  • Lift, move or transfer patients utilizing proper body mechanics to prevent self-injury or injury to others.
