About The Position

Conducts internal pipe inspections of sewer lines by operating equipment such as mobile television with closed circuit TV camera, flow-meters, and smoke test blowers to determine sewer repair needs throughout the City and County. Locates line sections to be inspected and determines setup procedures. Provides direction to workers in positioning equipment, cables, and chemicals. Monitors equipment to locate and identify inflow- infiltration points and sewer line defects. Operates control panel of mobile television unit to activate and adjust television equipment in order to video tape condition of sewer line or to photograph serious or unusual irregularities. Records pertinent data and prepares reports of findings and action taken. Communicates with workers using mobile radio, and confers with supervisor to discuss conditions of sewer lines. Gives directions to workers in efficient and safe use of equipment. Communicates with residents to answer questions and explain proceedings. Inspects equipment to detect malfunctions and to perform routine maintenance. Drives vehicles to work site including TV van, wash truck, or pick-up truck. Inspections are conducted in alleys, woods, and flood areas and will occasionally require riding in small boat and helicopter. Keeps abreast of emerging trends and changes in the enforcement of federal, state, and local regulations regarding sewer ordinance.
