About The Position

The Clements Center is seeking policy research fellows who have substantial government experience and/or PhD-level education for a 12-month research fellowship. Fellows must be capable of producing first-rate, non-partisan white papers, policy briefs, long-form essays, reports, and shorter public-facing analysis and commentary that contribute meaningfully and constructively to perennial challenges in national security. Fellowships may be renewable for highly-productive practitioners and scholars. The Clements Center determines the topics and themes that fellows will focus on, but fellows have intellectual freedom within the prescribed topical and thematic framework. Fellows are expected to be in-residence at the main UT Austin campus. Ideal candidates will: - Have an excellent record of scholarship with robust research agendas - Have a doctorate degree in history, politicial science, or a related field - Show that their proposed/potential research will further the mission of the Clements Center for National Security - Be eager to contribute to the intellectual life of the Clements Center, be fully present in a supportive community of scholars, and support student development Practitioners with distinguished, full careers in the Department of State, the intelligence community, the Department of Defense, legislative affairs, and related fields are also encouraged to apply and do not require a Ph.D.

Requirements

• Substantial government experience and/or PhD-level education.
• Excellent record of scholarship with robust research agendas.
• Doctorate degree in history, political science, or a related field (for academic candidates).
• Proposed/potential research will further the mission of the Clements Center for National Security.
• Distinguished, full careers in the Department of State, the intelligence community, the Department of Defense, legislative affairs, and related fields (for practitioner candidates).
