About The Position

Advanced Energy United (United) is currently seeking a Policy Principal to join our Decisionmaker Education and Engagement team (DMEE). The DMEE team assists governors, state regulators, state energy office officials, and policymakers to better understand advanced energy products, services, and business models. Through conferences, business roundtables, and political events, United engages key decision-makers around the benefits advanced energy technologies and services can provide to constituents and helps to solve the challenges in obtaining these benefits. Reporting directly to the Policy Director, the Policy Principal will be responsible for strategizing, implementing, and managing state-level campaigns dedicated to ensuring key decision-makers are equipped with strategies to deploy affordable advanced energy solutions quickly to support their state’s economy. The ideal candidate has exceptional project management, relationship building, and stakeholder engagement skills as well as an ability to quickly assess and act upon political dynamics that are affecting the energy sector. While you do not need to be a state energy policy expert to be successful in this role, strong candidates should possess an interest in—and working knowledge of—energy policy issues and be comfortable with communicating with decision-makers at a high level on United’s policy priorities. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible. Candidates will need to travel to meet with key stakeholders approximately 1-2 times per quarter.

  • Track record of successfully launching and managing multi-stakeholder programs or campaigns.
  • Independent self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; candidates must be very comfortable working with colleagues in a remote environment, owning new projects, managing their own calendar, and delivering on high expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; candidates must be able to successfully develop and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocacy groups, industry experts, and regulators.
  • Existing relationships – or a demonstrated ability to quickly build relationships – with senior leaders in the energy sector.
  • Experience managing confidential information and intelligence.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required—inclusive of public speaking.
