About The Position

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking a Policy Communications Coordinator to join its Communications Department. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans to support policy and district-wide initiatives. The coordinator will manage constituent inquiries, monitor issues, analyze trends, and disseminate accurate information to public and elected officials. They will also provide case management support, collaborate on public feedback opportunities, and assist in planning and facilitating meetings. The position requires a strong understanding of San Francisco's public school system and a commitment to equity. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, problem-solver, and collaborator, comfortable with public speaking and media engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years providing direct assistance to individuals in a social services, legal, government, or community-based setting
  • Strategic leadership and management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy, tact, and good judgment when interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and under stressful situations
  • Comfortability with public speaking and media engagement
  • Proficiency in Google, Zoom, and Microsoft Suite and able to adapt to technology systems

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Strategic leadership and management experience; in a K-12 public educational setting preferred
  • Ability to communicate fluently in multiple languages, especially Spanish, is highly desirable
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and is highly organized

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans to support policy and other district-wide initiatives
  • Respond to and manage constituent inquiries routed through municipal or State offices, including casework correspondence and verbal communications on matters related to SFUSD
  • Monitor issues of concern, apply trend analysis to identify policy and communications implications, and provide support in the development of District responses
  • Disseminate up-to-date, accurate, and timely information to public and elected offices about SFUSD policies and initiatives
  • Provide case management support using systems, processes, and protocols to monitor, report, and resolve complaints and concerns
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to plan and coordinate public feedback opportunities such as surveys, meetings, and other outreach efforts to gather data that can contribute to district-wide policies and communication
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating meetings, including preparing talking points, presentations, and other supporting material as needed
  • Serve as a district spokesperson as needed
