About The Position

The Public Agency Secretariat provides advisory services to strengthen governance, recruitment, and compensation practices of Alberta's public agencies, boards, and commissions (ABCs). The Public Agency Secretariat (PAS) is looking for a Policy Analyst to help strengthen governance, transparency and accountability across Alberta’s public agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs). This role brings together policy analysis, governance support, recruitment coordination, data and systems administration, reporting and stakeholder engagement. You will help departments and public agencies navigate governance and appointment requirements, support centralized recruitment processes, coordinate compensation disclosure activities, maintain accurate public agency information, and turn complex information into practical advice, tools and decision-ready products. Requirements

  • A university degree in public administration, business administration, political science, policy studies, arts, humanities, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather, evaluate, and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing briefing notes, reports, summaries, or recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and related data management tools.

  • Experience supporting policy development, research, analysis, or program implementation, and interpreting legislation, policies, procedures, or governance requirements.
  • Experience working in government, public sector, or a regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of public agency governance policies, legislation, regulations and related initiatives.
  • Coordinate and support centralized recruitment and appointment processes for Alberta’s public agencies, boards and commissions, including maintaining recruitment information, tracking timelines and identifying emerging issues.
  • Administer and maintain public agency databases, business applications and SharePoint sites, ensuring information is accurate, current and accessible.
  • Support departments and public agencies with annual compensation and severance disclosure requirements, including tracking milestones, preparing communications and resources, and monitoring completion.
  • Research legislation, policies, practices and information from other jurisdictions to support policy development, governance initiatives and recommendations.
  • Prepare briefing notes, reports, presentations, communications products and other materials that translate complex information into clear, practical advice for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide guidance to departments, public agencies and other stakeholders on governance, recruitment, systems and related processes.
  • Work with IT and business partners to resolve system issues, improve processes, support testing and reduce data-integrity risks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, training materials and information resources that support consistent and effective service delivery.
