About The Position

The Policy and Research Manager position with APCIA works directly with APCIA's FGR, SGR, and PA Teams and other divisions to advance APCIA's Strategic Goals with key audiences including APCIA members companies, lawmakers, regulators, and other stakeholders. Develops, with management support, research reports, talking points, and/or testimony based on data driven analyses on issues pertaining to federal, state, and international APCIA public policy. Identifies emerging public policy issues that will impact the p/c industry and may require the development of new policy positions or a response by the association. Analyzes, criticizes, and reports on research and other reports regarding issues affecting the interests of APCIA members. Functions as a technical resource to APCIA staff on issues related to personal lines, commercial lines, and workers’ compensation lines issues affecting our members. Develop talking points and other written comments using research in support of PCI's position of pending legislation and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-3 yrs experience with research and public policy development skills, a strong interest in applicability to property casualty issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to think strategically, critically evaluate and clearly synthesizes information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively interact with a diverse team of people.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to deal with a fast-paced environment with changing work priorities.
  • Must be team oriented and results driven.

Responsibilities

  • Produces information/reports and "talking points" in support of APCIA public policy efforts.
  • Develops research support of those policy issues by analyzing and interpreting key information related to the p/c industry, develop presentations, and make recommendations on findings to management.
  • Engages with other divisions to influence decision making by providing data, research, and strategic frameworks.
  • Develops strong member relations in order to understand their issues and priorities.
  • Publish research bulletins to alert APCIA members on trends and issues impacting both short term and long term strategic p/c initiatives and issues.
  • Provide prompt response/service and accurate information to membership.
  • Develop on-going expertise on p-c insurance issues
  • Develop public policy papers when assigned.
  • Analyze research documents, etc. when assigned.
  • Assist and coordinate with other APCIA staff in the handling of member company informational requests, planning of conferences, seminars, and similar programs, and other joint activities
  • Provide constructive feedback on PRI issues during discussions pertaining to policy and emerging issues.
