About The Position

The Policy Analyst analyzes legislative and regulatory policies and proposals; assesses their impact on people with disabilities, and educates policymakers accordingly. The position reports directly to one of DLC’s Co-Legal Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, public health, political science, social work, or similar field
  • Two or more years of experience in policy analysis, advocacy, government, or another relevant field
  • Ability to register and remain in good standing as a lobbyist in Colorado
  • Strong communication, research, writing, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Commitment to disability justice, equity, and self-advocacy

Nice To Haves

  • JD, MPP, MPA, MPH, MSW, or similar advanced degree
  • Lived experience with disability

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing laws and proposed changes in state and federal statutes and regulations
  • Educate state legislators and other policymakers about the impact of their decisions on people with disabilities
  • Develop policy proposals to improve the lives of people with disabilities
  • Advocate for DLC’s agenda during the Colorado legislative session
  • Monitor and review state agency budgets, including supplemental requests
  • Track, analyze, and engage in state agency rulemaking
  • Build strategic relationships with other advocacy organizations and stakeholders
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of nonprofit lobbying rules and ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements, including reporting obligations and limitations on the use of federal funds
  • Represent DLC in public forums, panels, commissions, and coalitions
  • Convey DLC’s positions to the public and the news media
  • Provide trainings on disability rights and policy developments
  • Develop and edit written and multimedia content

  • All employees must also exhibit work performance consistent with the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct and the National Disability Rights Network’s Standards.
