About The Position

The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City’s economy stronger. The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services is responsible for ensuring that agencies that oversee the City’s social services are run compassionately, equitably, and effectively, and that the City’s public health and healthcare delivery systems deliver results for all New Yorkers. This position will provide project management, analytical, research, and administrative support for the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services' team, focusing on supporting programs and initiatives related to older adults, youth and young adults, people with disabilities, and other specialized populations. The role involves liaising with Advisors and agency staff, tracking implementation plans, reviewing data and reports, producing memos and fact sheets, and drafting communication materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize between conflicting demands and the flexibility to meet unpredictable demands.
  • Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Self-starter who positively contributes to a learning culture and collaborative team and is willing to perform the full range of tasks required in a dynamic and rapidly responsive organization.
  • Ability to quickly absorb complex technical documents and brief senior staff.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to prioritize workload and function effectively within and outside the office.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Some understanding of or experience in NYC politics.
  • Research and/or analytical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide central administrative support, including preparation of correspondence and briefing memorandums, and meeting planning and assistance.
  • Assist staff members with coordinating high-priority interagency workstreams across the portfolio, such as improving healthcare delivery and access, and addressing homelessness.
  • Support team members who serve as liaisons between agencies and the Office of the Deputy Mayor to monitor projects, and review policy proposals, budgets, and public reporting.
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative research on local, state, and federal policies within the portfolio.
  • Prepare materials for the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, including drafting memos, remarks, and correspondence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
