About The Position

As a Police Officer Trainee, you will be compensated to attend a Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) academy and perform miscellaneous duties to include clerical and other tasks as needed. This is an in-training position for individuals that have not completed training and academic requirements established by the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards to become a fully certified Police Officer. A Police Officer Trainee will perform applicable duties associated with training guidelines set by the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards' Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (B.L.E.T.).

Requirements

  • High school diploma/G.E.D.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must be 20 years of age by end of Basic Law Enforcement Training classes.
  • Minimum knowledge of police laws and enforcement.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good general math skills.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with the public and associates.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
  • Give written consent to a thorough background investigation.
  • Give written consent for fingerprinting and have a search made by this agency of: local, state, and national records to disclose any past criminal history.
  • Be examined and certified by a physician to meet physical requirements of a Law Enforcement Officer.
  • Consent to a drug screen meeting the requirements of Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs with negative results.
  • Consent to a psychological examination and be determined to properly fulfill the requirements of a Law Enforcement Officer's mental and emotional suitability.

  • Pass the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards state examination for police officers.
  • Meet the requirements of firearms training as prescribed for Law Enforcement.
