About The Position

Provides clerical and administrative assistance by performing the following duties. This position is located at the Orange County Sheriff's Office Sector V Substation - 6817 Westwood Blvd, Orlando, FL 32821.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Intermediate math skills to include calculating discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and statistics.
  • Intermediate computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to complete FCIC/NCIC certified within one (1) year of accepting position.
  • May be required to become a Public Notary within six (6) months of employment.
  • Some positions, depending on the responsibilities, may require the candidate to successfully pass a physical or other selection processes when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clerical and administrative assistance.
  • Escorting duties when directing court personnel and jurors (i.e. courtrooms and ordering meals for jury, returning to courtrooms, etc.)
  • Answer questions verbally or in writing regarding unit-specific issues and route questions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to requests for documents and other information; may have to exercise some independent judgment in accordance with public information laws regarding disclosure.
  • Maintain logs and appropriately inventory, order, and distribute equipment/items as needed (e.g. office supplies, personal protective equipment, etc.).
  • Enter data, retrieve information and verify accuracy of records; run queries, modify records and update files to and from the appropriate databases.
  • Perform other clerical duties as needed, such as sorting/sending, sorting and distributing mail, completing, and filing.
  • Perform notary work (if applicable).
  • Administer subpoenas, statistical reports, incident reports.
  • Assist personnel and the general public with paperwork.
  • Collect money and issue receipts (depending on assignment).
  • Read and interpret legal documents, technical procedures and Florida State Statutes.
  • Write routine correspondence and reports.
  • Effectively present and speak to citizens, vendors, judges, law enforcement and employees of an organization.
  • Problem solve with several variables.
  • Deal with money, costs, and cost comparisons and outside vendors.
  • Learn multiple specialized software and database systems.
  • Multitask, be detail oriented, and handle multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Organize and plan.
  • Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deal with strict deadlines.
  • Learn, understand, express, apply, and demonstrate knowledge of relevant Florida State Statutes as well as agency policies and procedures.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Learn police radio using 10 codes and signals.
