About The Position

The Grove City Division of Police is seeking candidates for the role of Police Officer. This role involves serving and protecting the residents, businesses, and visitors of the community. The position requires law enforcement duties, crime prevention measures, apprehension of criminals, and protection of life and property. Duties include responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, conducting preliminary investigations of crimes and traffic crashes, and generating detailed reports. The division is nationally accredited by CALEA, signifying a commitment to high-quality service through innovative technology, training, specialized investigation, and professional, unbiased enforcement.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older by April 1, 2027.
  • Must be under 35 years of age on December 9, 2026, unless you have a previous appointment as an Ohio law enforcement officer.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have a High School Grad/GED.
  • Must possess a valid OHIO State Driver's License.
  • Must be able to Read/Speak English.
  • Must reside within a 60-mile radius of police headquarters within six months of employment.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully pass a written test (NTN).
  • Successfully pass PRADCO review.
  • Successfully pass physical fitness test.
  • Undergo a thorough background investigation, including a truth verification test, drug test, and psychological and medical evaluation.
  • No tattoos or body art which are considered offensive.
  • Tattoos, body art, branding, or decorative markings visible in a duty uniform will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • No tattoos are authorized or permitted which are visible on the head, neck, face, hands, within one (1) inch of the top of the wrist bone, or above the bottom of the collar bone, unless approved.
  • Possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Knowledge of interviewing, intake procedures, government structure and process, OPOTA certification/licensure requirements, government grant programs, criminal laws and/or regulations, City goals and objectives, City policies and procedures, personnel rules, workplace safety practices and procedures, traffic control, criminology, investigation techniques, arrest procedures, law enforcement procedures and methods, techniques of collection and preservation of evidence, federal, state, and local laws, law enforcement administration, surveillance techniques, search and seizure, security practices and procedures, uniform criminal recording codes, criminal justice, public relations, media relations, community resources and services, rules of evidence, courtroom procedures, criminal procedure, Ohio Revised Code criminal law, records management, local geographical area, OIBRS reporting requirements.
  • Skill in computer operation, calculator operation, use of modern office equipment, motor vehicle operation, operation and care of firearms, use or operation of police equipment, use of restraint devices.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; deal with many variables and determine specific action; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; exercise independent judgment and discretion; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; determine material and equipment needs; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; compile and prepare reports; write instructions and specifications; use proper research methods to gather data; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; conduct effective interviews; communicate effectively; instruct others; recognize safety warnings; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; answer routine telephone inquiries; handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public; develop and maintain effective working relationships; resolve complaints; demonstrate physical endurance; demonstrate physical agility; travel to and gain access to work site; subdue and/or restrain suspects; maintain fitness standards; work well in a team environment, and follow the leadership of the officers appointed above.

Responsibilities

  • Law enforcement and implementation of crime prevention measures.
  • Apprehension of criminals and protection of life and property.
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service as a direct service provider of police and other emergency services to the public.
  • Responding, reporting, and conducting preliminary investigations of crimes and traffic crashes.
  • Generating detailed reports documenting daily activities, stolen property, incidents, complaints, investigations, missing persons, accidents, crime scenes, etc.
  • Maintaining appropriately documented records in accordance with Department policy.
  • Conducting intensive and continuing criminal investigations of felonies and misdemeanors.
  • Appearing in court and at the grand jury to provide testimony regarding incidents, investigations, and results of inquiries.
  • Assisting the prosecutor in case preparation or presentation as needed.
  • May serve as officer-in-charge or shift-supervisor while on duty.
  • Assisting with acclimation of new patrol officers in standard operating procedure and completion of all reports and daily activities.
  • Ensuring complete understanding of duties as required.
  • Maintaining required licensure and certification.
  • Meeting all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Demonstrating regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned, but not limited to, secondary assignments such as SRT, bike patrol, traffic crash investigation, etc.
