About The Position

Supervise and participate in the activities of patrol, respond to calls for service, emergencies, and general customer service on an assigned shift; or perform responsible administrative staff duties. Police sergeants work independently in performing regularly assigned duties under the general orders of a Police Lieutenant or other higher ranking supervisor. Supervision is exercised over Police Officer, Police Trainees, and civilian security staff. Sergeants will often assume complete charge in the absence of a higher-ranking officer. A Sergeant is responsible for planning, budgeting and directing the operations of assigned organizational components. Similarly, when an officer is not available, he/she will assume the duties as required.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of post-secondary coursework in a related field equivalent to an Associate’s degree.
• A minimum of four years of experience in the rank of Police Sergeant or above.
• Valid Georgia State Driver’s License.
• Successful completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training basic course.
• Current valid GA POST certification.
