About The Position

The City of El Cajon is seeking motivated individuals to join their Police Department as a Police Recruit. This role involves making a direct impact on the community of El Cajon. El Cajon is a full-service city with a first-class police department, committed to a safe and secure community through service, mutual cooperation, and respect. The Police Department is active, responding to a variety of calls for service while building partnerships and focusing on Community Oriented Policing. Sworn divisions include Patrol, US Marshal Fugitive Task Force, Traffic, Crisis Negotiation Team, Investigations, and K9 Unit. Special assignments are available with the DEA Narcotics Task Force and FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Support divisions include Records, Communications Center, Property, and ISO Accredited Crime Laboratory. Police Officers work three 12.5-hour shifts. New Police Recruits are provided with all necessary equipment.

Requirements

  • Must submit applications and attachments, such as a valid outside PELLETB score or college degree, by the application deadline.
  • Must have a valid outside PELLETB score.
  • T-Score must be from a PELLETB exam taken within 6 months of the PELLETB test date (on or after March 26, 2026).
  • T-Score must be 42.0 or higher.
  • Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
  • Must successfully complete the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) with a T-Score of 42.0 or higher.
  • Must successfully complete the Personal History Statement.
  • Must successfully complete a Panel Interview.
  • Must successfully complete a Polygraph examination.
  • Must successfully complete a Pre-Investigative Questionnaire.
  • Must successfully complete the Captain’s Interview.
  • Must successfully complete a Background Investigation.
  • Must successfully complete the Chief’s Interview.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to an array of calls for service.
  • Build partnerships and focus on Community Oriented Policing.
  • Participate in specialized assignments with task forces such as the DEA Narcotics Task Force and FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
  • Undergo a psychological examination.
  • Undergo a pre-employment medical examination.
