About The Position

The City of Arvada is seeking a Police Recruit to attend and successfully complete a Colorado P.O.S.T. law enforcement training academy. Upon graduation, the recruit will obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. certification. This role involves developing knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to law enforcement, maintaining physical fitness, and passing certification tests. The position also includes completing ride-alongs, reviewing department rules, providing court testimony, and operating a motor vehicle for work-related travel.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Successfully pass a polygraph, psychological exam, drug screen, and an extensive background check.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS, BBA)
  • Ability to obtain certification in job-related functions such as: Intoxilyzer, Self-defense and arrest tactics, Emergency vehicle operations, Firearms proficiency.
  • Good health and fitness levels.

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities learned in their certified Colorado law enforcement training academy.
  • Ability to learn basic computer programs in use at the police department.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Attends and successfully completes a certified Colorado law enforcement training academy.
  • Develops knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to the training criteria.
  • Maintains physical fitness.
  • Passes P.O.S.T. certification testing for the State of Colorado.
  • Completes ride-a-longs with police officers during the academy.
  • Reviews personnel and department rules and regulations.
  • Provides court testimony and case preparation for all cases including traffic, criminal or civil requiring the officer’s presence or the officer’s reports in municipal, state, or federal court.
  • Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.
  • Familiarize themselves with the City of Arvada and the Arvada Police Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
