About The Position

The City of Burbank is currently hiring for Police Officer/Recruit. This role involves attending a regular basic California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified law enforcement academy to gain a comprehensive overview of the criminal justice system, including training in laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, and physical fitness. Upon graduation, recruits will be sworn in as full duty Police Officers. Candidates must complete the department application and the FrontLine National written exam through the National Testing Network, and also complete the required PHQ. A 90-day waiting period applies for re-application for candidates who withdraw, fail to appear, or fail any part of the testing process. Candidates may be required to reside within one hour of reporting to work after completing their initial probationary period.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• At least 20 years of age to apply and 21 years of age upon graduation from the academy.
• Good physical condition, subject to determination by the City Medical Examiner.
• A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at time of appointment.
• Must complete the department application.
• Must complete the FrontLine National written exam through the National Testing Network at www.NationalTestingNetwork.com before NOON Friday June 19, 2026.
• Must select the City of Burbank to share FrontLine National exam results.
• Must complete the PHQ through the candidate account by the closing date.

• Possession of an Advanced POST certification may be eligible for differential pay.
• Possession of a Master's Degree may be eligible for differential pay.

Benefits

• Salary during academy: $7,498.96/month.
• Salary after academy: $8,332.18 - $10,405.76/month ($99,986.12 - $124,869.16 annually).
• Differential pay of 10% of the top step of a Police Officer for Advanced POST.
• Differential pay of $495 per month for a Master's Degree.
