As a Police Records Specialist, you'll be at the core of police operations, ensuring precise records management and helping citizens with essential services. From handling public inquiries to processing sensitive criminal records, you'll interact with citizens, contributing to safety and order in our City.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Two years of full-time or equivalent clerical work experience
  • Ability to receive CJIS clearance and LEDs certification within 30 days of employment
  • Successfully passes a comprehensive background investigation inclusive of: Comprehensive background investigation, Psychological examination, Clear drug screen (which includes testing for cannabis)

Responsibilities

  • Handles and processes confidential records.
  • Collaborates with police officers.
  • Interfaces with the public.
  • Handles public inquiries.
  • Processes sensitive criminal records.
  • Performs extensive computer entry; scans and retrieves sensitive, confidential information involved in police reports into state, federal and local computer systems.
  • Files police reports and related documents; maintains organized and accurate filing systems.
  • Assists citizens with complaints, collects monies and issues receipts for various fees, releases impounded vehicles, registers sex offenders, and provides general public information, deals with diverse situations and sometimes difficult public contacts.
  • Distributes police reports to courts, public, governmental agencies and other authorized individuals, following department policy, state and federal laws.
  • Processes criminal warrants through the automated criminal justice records system; confirms warrants, ensures criminal warrants are returned to the appropriate court.
  • Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
