About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for an Entry Level Police Patrol Officer position within the Springfield Police Department. This role involves routine patrol, preliminary investigations, suspect apprehension and arrest, and the initial processing of evidence and property.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship
• High school diploma or GED
• Vision standards: 20/40 or better with soft contacts, 20/40 or better with glasses or hard contacts (and no worse than 20/100 when removed), normal color vision or mild color blindness/mild anomalous trichromat (red-green deficiency)
• Ability to meet and comply with the department’s tattoo policy
• No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors
• Ability to pass all required phases of the examination
• Valid driver’s license at time of hire
• Valid FOID card within twelve (12) months of hire
• Minimum age: 21 years old (or 20 with at least 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university)
• Maximum age: 34 years old, unless qualifying for exemptions under Illinois Compiled State Statutes (65 ILCS 5) for prior employment or military service.
