About The Position

Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking applicants interested in joining the Wentworth community as a Police Officer. The Wentworth Institute of Technology Police Department will support and emulate the mission, core values, and goals of Wentworth by providing a safe campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Wentworth Institute of Technology police officer is expected to support the Wentworth community by following the organization’s and department’s values and polices. The Wentworth Institute of Technology police officer will provide a full range of law enforcement and security services.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
21 years of age.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Commonwealth of Massachusetts POST Commission Certification and SSPO Warrant of Appointment.
Eligible to attend a Municipal Police Academy Training (MPTC) Full-Time Police Academy.
Ability to obtain and maintain a license to carry a firearm in Massachusetts.
Must successfully pass a comprehensive background assessment that includes criminal history, driving record, medical examination, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and an inclusive appraisal of work history.
Possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in state of residence.

Nice To Haves

Graduate of a Full-Time MPTC or Massachusetts State Police Academy or equivalent.
POST certified.
Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities

Investigate calls, complaints, and suspicious activity and incidents.
Enforce laws, maintain order, and assist people.
Identify criminal activity and apprehend offenders.
Identify the source of problems in the Wentworth community.
Work with other law enforcement agencies to resolve issues.
Respect the rights and dignity of all individuals while completing the functions of their job.
Provide proactive police protection and crime prevention consistent with community policing standards.
Ensure the Wentworth community's safety in an orderly, efficient, and professional manner.
Conduct investigations of issues and crimes which lead to identification, apprehension, and prosecution of offenders.
Enforce criminal laws, policies, rules, and regulations in a fair, consistent, and equitable manner.
Contact the public in a responsive, non-escalatory manner when warning, citing, or arresting persons for violations of the law.
Exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness in the investigation and arrest of criminals, and while maintaining law and order during times of emergency.
Perform varied duties involving the patrol of assigned areas, buildings, streets, and grounds, to provide increased protection of life and property.
Patrol street and grounds within assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to deter violations and crimes.
Respond to emergency calls and ask for assistance in situations including, but not limited to, fire alarms, intrusion/panic alarms, and accidents.
Conduct investigations of assigned cases and cite or arrest when laws have been violated.
Investigate all complaints of criminal acts reported by the public or assigned by a superior.
Direct activities in accidents and disaster areas, render first aid, and restore traffic flow.
Assist other law enforcement officers with warrants, apprehending criminals, crowd management, and other general law enforcement work.
Guard and protect university property.
