About The Position

The McNeese University Police Department is accepting applications for a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. At McNeese State University, our mission is to deliver a life-changing higher education experience by fostering a dynamic teaching and learning community committed to excellence with a personal touch. This position exists to receive, review, and respond to requests from University Police Officers and Police Officers with outside law enforcement agencies. This position serves as the point of contact for the university for emergency situations, accidents, incidents, complaints, etc., using independent discretion, judgment in dispatching officers to various locations. Provide a limited lower-level range of law enforcement duties and requires the ability to work in a collegial manner, displaying excellent customer service skills. May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment. May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course. May be required to qualify annually with a firearm. Must be 18 years of age at time of application.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • State Civil Service test scores for 2100-PSE (Protective Services Exam) by the close of this announcement.
  • Must maintain qualification with firearms.
  • Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • One year of law enforcement experience (for Police Officer 2).

Responsibilities

  • Protect lives and property through active mobile and foot patrols, enforcing laws and regulations of the State, City, and University.
  • Respond to emergencies within the University jurisdiction and provide necessary services as required.
  • Enforce parking and traffic regulations across campus sites that may include the use of radar/LIDAR for traffic enforcement.
  • Provide security for campus-wide events and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
