This is an entrance examination to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. The eligibility list will become effective immediately following the completion of the existing list. The salary range for non-certified officers is $76,765.65 to $93,309.13 annually, and for certified officers, it is $80,603.94 to $93,309.13 annually. A signing bonus of $5,000 is available to Certified Police Officers. Candidates interested in taking the entrance level exam must have their application on file with the Director of Civil Service by 5:00 p.m. on August 24, 2026. To receive veteran’s preference points, a copy of the DD214 form showing an Honorable discharge must be submitted prior to the application deadline. Any designation other than Honorable will not be accepted for veteran’s points. Applicants must meet the minimum requirements to be eligible to take the test. The written portion of the examination is a comprehensive reading and writing exam with a passing score of 70. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to a score of 70 or above. The written examination will establish the eligibility list, which will remain in effect for a twelve-month period unless exhausted. Candidates passing the written portion will be directed to complete physical agility testing, which will be performed on a Concept 2 Rowing Machine. Physical readiness will be established at 25% VO2 max percentage based on a 2,000-meter row, with the time determined by height, weight, age, and gender. Candidates who pass the written exam and physical agility will be subject to a driver analysis, background investigation, medical exam (including drug screen), psychological exam, polygraph exam, and any other job-relevant investigation deemed necessary. All applicants must complete a City of Benbrook Police Department Personal History Statement Packet, which will be due by 5:00 p.m. on September 4, 2026, after passing the exam. The City of Benbrook is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of disability. Special accommodations are available when necessary to afford equal opportunity to participate in testing.
