About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Shift Sergeant or, in his or her absence, the senior most officer acting in the capacity of Shift Sergeant, the incumbent performs general police duties. A police officer, through the enforcement of Tribal, Federal and State laws and ordinances, performs related work duty often under emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) is required.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of Tribal, Federal and State laws and Tribal ordinances, motor vehicle laws and traffic control, modern techniques of law enforcement, crime investigations and control.
  • Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and record them clearly and completely.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Ability to execute duties firmly, tactfully, courteously, and impartially.
  • Ability to obtain CT POST and BIA and SLEC certification with one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary credits or degree in Law Enforcement or related field is beneficial.
  • CT POST Certified preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce Tribal, Federal and State laws and ordinances.
  • Perform general police duties, often under emergency situations.
  • Engage in police patrol operations such as traffic enforcement.
  • Detect and report hazardous conditions.
  • Participate in community policing programs.
  • Detect criminal activities and investigate reports of crimes.
  • Arrest criminal offenders and process reports and court documents.
  • Receive and serve court orders.
  • Execute search and arrest warrants applied for or ordered by the Tribal Court.
  • Participate in other special details and events as needed.
  • Learn the use and care of firearms.
  • Learn the operation of emergency vehicles.
  • Use communications and first-responder equipment.
