About The Position

The City of Hurst is conducting a Civil Service Examination for the Police Officer position. This process includes a written examination, typing test, physical assessment, and preliminary interviews. Applicants must meet specific minimum qualifications and pass several stages of evaluation to be considered for the role. The eligibility list generated from this examination will be effective for twelve months.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States Citizen (born or naturalized) or an Honorably Discharged Legal Permanent Resident (effective September 1, 2023, per Texas Senate Bill 252, allowing honorably discharged Legal Permanent Residents with at least two years of service to be peace officers).
  • At least age 21 at time of testing.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of 30 hours from an accredited school, college, or university with a GPA of 2.0 or better (hours must be completed by appointment and accreditation must be from a postsecondary institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA).
  • The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have completed at least two years as a sworn peace officer or those who have been honorably discharged from the United States military.
  • Vision sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential sight tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual acuity).
  • Hearing sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential hearing tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes discerning spoken words from background noise and determining direction of sounds).
  • Must be licensable by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
  • Good moral character.
  • Stable employment history.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain one).

  • Completed Personal History Statement (PHS) must be presented prior to entry for the written examination.

Nice To Haves

  • Five veteran points will be given on the written test for individuals who have passed the written exam and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military (copy of DD form 214 required at time of test).
