About The Position

The City of Hurst is conducting a Civil Service Examination for the position of Police Officer. Applicants are required to apply online and submit their applications by 11:59 P.M. on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The written examination will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Hurst Justice Center. Applicants will also complete a typing test (25 wpm net) and a physical assessment on the same day, with preliminary interviews potentially commencing as well. Passing the written examination is a prerequisite for proceeding to the physical assessment and preliminary interviews. Further details can be obtained by contacting the Hurst Police Department. The eligibility list generated from this examination will be valid for twelve months.

Requirements

United States Citizen (born or naturalized) or Honorably Discharged Legal Permanent Resident (effective September 1, 2023, per Texas Senate Bill 252, allowing honorably discharged legal permanent residents with at least two years of service to be peace officers).
At least age 21 at time of testing.
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of 30 hours from an accredited school, college, or university with a grade point average of 2.0 or better (hours must be completed by appointment and accreditation must be from a postsecondary institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an accrediting association recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation).
Vision sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential sight tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual acuity).
Hearing sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential hearing tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes discerning spoken words, distinguishing direction of speech/noise, and ability to perform tasks with or without amplification devices that prevent further hearing loss).
Must be licensable by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Good moral character.
Stable employment history.
Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain one).

Nice To Haves

The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have completed at least two years as a sworn peace officer.
The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have been honorably discharged from the United States military.
Five veteran points will be given on the written test for individuals who have passed the written exam and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military (a copy of the DD form 214 showing type of discharge must be presented at the time of written test).
