About The Position

The Chesterfield County Police Department is seeking qualified individuals to join their team as Police Officers. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for service, conducting investigations, making arrests, and interacting with the community. The position is part of a step-based Public Safety Pay Plan offering career progression and salary incentives. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including overnights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen (or actively in the naturalization process with DCJS approval).
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age prior to completion of the field training program.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years.
  • Must have binocular vision of 20/25 corrected.
  • Weight in proportion to height.
  • No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors.
  • No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest plea to, any misdemeanor sex offense or any domestic assault.
  • Must pass a physical agility test.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
  • Must pass a more stringent criminal background check for CJIS Security Policy compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Approval from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) if not a US citizen but in the naturalization process.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an assigned patrol vehicle.
  • Patrol assigned areas of the county for traffic and criminal violations.
  • Respond to citizen calls, complaints, and requests for information.
  • Conduct victim, witness, and suspect interviews.
  • Prepare detailed reports.
  • Make arrests.
  • Testify in court.
  • Interact with community groups and organizations.
  • Perform other police patrol operations in the field as assigned and as needed.
  • Perform other work as required.
