About The Position

The City of Hurst, Texas is conducting an Entrance Examination for the Police Officer position. Applicants must apply online by 11:59 P.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The written examination will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Hurst Justice Center, 825 Thousand Oaks Drive, Hurst, TX 76054. Applicants will also complete a typing test (25 wpm net) and a physical assessment on the day of the written examination. Preliminary interviews may also be conducted on the same day. Passing the written examination is a prerequisite for the physical assessment and preliminary interviews. Applicants are also required to review Minimum Qualifications and Disqualifications at www.hursttx.gov/policecareers and submit a completed Personal History Statement (PHS) before the written examination.

Requirements

  • United States Citizen (born or naturalized) or Honorably Discharged Legal permanent Resident (effective September 1, 2023, per Texas Senate Bill 252, allowing Legal Permanent Residents with honorable discharge from U.S. military with at least two years of service to be peace officers).
  • At least age 21 at time of testing.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of 30 hours from an accredited school, college, or university with a grade point average of 2.0 or better (hours must be completed by appointment and accreditation must be from a postsecondary institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA).
  • Vision sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential sight tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual acuity).
  • Hearing sufficient (unaided or aided) to perform essential hearing tasks without posing a direct threat to officer or others (includes discerning spoken words, distinguishing speech from background noise, and determining direction of speech/noise).
  • Licensable by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
  • Good moral character.
  • Stable employment history.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain one).

Nice To Haves

  • The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have completed at least two years as a sworn peace officer.
  • The 30 college hours may be waived for those who have been honorably discharged from the United States military.
  • Five veteran points will be given on the written test for individuals who have passed the written exam and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military. A copy of the DD form 214 (showing type of discharge) MUST be presented at the time of written test to receive five additional points on a passing test score.
