About The Position

The City of Oceanside is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer - Entry Level. This recruitment is to fill vacancies for the Regional Peace Officer POST Academy. The Oceanside Police Department serves a community of 178,000 residents and has an authorized strength of 228 sworn and 84 professional staff members. The department handles approximately 110,000 calls for service annually and is organized under the Chief’s office and three divisions: Patrol, Support Operations, and Investigations. Their motto is "Service With Pride," emphasizing quality customer service and efficient service, with a commitment to public safety and innovative crime-prevention techniques. The selection process includes a POST PELLETB written examination, a thorough Police background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and medical examination, including pre-employment drug screening. The City of Oceanside is a participant in the Veterans Affairs On-the-Job/Apprenticeship Training Program.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate or equivalent.
  • Must be twenty (20) years and six (6) months on the date you apply and twenty one (21) years by the date of Academy graduation.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident who has applied for U.S. Citizenship.
  • Possess a valid Class C California Driver's license at time of appointment.
  • Pass a thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation and medical examination which will include a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or serving probation.
  • A T-score of 46 or higher on the POST PELLETB written examination is required to continue in the selection process.
  • Successfully complete the written examination (POST PELLETB).
  • Successfully complete the Pre-Investigative Questionnaire (PIQ).
  • Successfully complete the Physical Agility Test (PAT) consisting of four events: 25 push-ups in 1 minute; 30 sit-ups in 1 minute; 165-pound dummy drag - 32 feet within 28 seconds; and 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes and 55 seconds (14:55).

Nice To Haves

  • Other agency POST PELLETB Test T-scores taken within 6 months prior to the City of Oceanside's test date.
  • An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • A foreign equivalency certificate issued by an accredited association.
  • POST PELLETB exam taken within the last thirty (30) calendar days, with any other agency, from our examination date.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle or on foot to answer service calls for the protection of life and property.
  • Conduct investigations.
  • Identify and collect evidence.
  • Direct traffic.
  • Make arrests.
  • Issue citations.
  • Serve warrants and subpoenas.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Work with the community to identify problems and solutions.
