About The Position

The City of Oakland is seeking qualified candidates to apply immediately for the Police Officer Trainee position. Upon successful completion of the academy, Police Officers receive annual step increases, potentially reaching the top step after five years.

Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited U.S. high school or G.E.D. certificate.
  • Must be 21 years of age upon graduation from the academy (six months in duration).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License to operate an automobile at the time of application.
  • May not have any felony convictions or other misdemeanor convictions that would prevent carrying a firearm.
  • Must be U.S. citizens.
