About The Position

This is a part-time position for a School Resource Officer. The role involves being assigned to a school to perform various police functions, including conducting interviews, preparing reports, making arrests, testifying in court, and interacting with community members. The position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and requires adherence to strict policies regarding drug and alcohol use, as well as a stringent criminal background check due to working in high-security areas governed by the "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy".

Requirements

  • Must be a former police officer with no more than two years separation from previous employment
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years
  • Must have binocular vision of 20/25 corrected
  • Weight in proportion to height
  • No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors
  • No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest plea to, any misdemeanor sex offense or any domestic assault
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required
  • Must pass a more stringent criminal background check for CJIS Security Policy compliance
