About The Position

Cottonwood Heights City is seeking motivated individuals interested in beginning a rewarding career in law enforcement. This recruitment is specifically for applicants who are not currently Utah POST Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certified. The City of Cottonwood Heights will sponsor the selected candidate through the Utah POST Law Enforcement Officer Academy (Block 396), which begins September 8, 2026, and concludes December 17, 2026. Applicants who have completed the Correctional Officer or Special Functions Officer certification are eligible to apply; however, applicants who have already completed the Utah POST LEO certification are not eligible for this recruitment.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of application deadline.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of hiring.
  • Applicants who are offered employment must undergo and successfully pass a thorough medical examination and drug/alcohol testing.
  • Applicants must, by date of hiring, possess a valid Utah driver license and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Prior to hiring, each applicant will be fingerprinted, and a thorough investigation will be conducted.
  • Must successfully complete the Physical Agility Test (pass/fail).
  • Must submit proof of a passing NPOST score of 80% or higher and a copy of their valid driver's license with their application.
  • Pre-employment drug testing and background check required.

  • Applicants who have completed the Correctional Officer or Special Functions Officer certification are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete the Physical Agility Test (pass/fail).
  • Complete a written examination.
  • Submit proof of a passing NPOST score of 80% or higher and a copy of their valid driver's license with their application.
  • Participate in an interview with members of the Police Department command staff.
  • Undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting.
  • Interview with the Chief of Police and the City Manager.
  • Successfully pass a medical examination and drug screening.
  • Complete the Utah POST Application for Training and Certification.
  • Remain employed with the Department for a minimum of three (3) years following completion of academy training.
