About The Position

This position is for an out-of-state pre-certified Police Officer. Eligible candidates will receive an abbreviated academy and full field training experience tailored to the Chesterfield County Police Department's philosophy, policies, and procedures. The role involves operating a patrol vehicle, patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls, conducting interviews, making arrests, preparing reports, testifying in court, and interacting with community groups. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. It also requires passing a stringent criminal background check due to CJIS Security Policy requirements.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid state law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding the date of hire
  • Completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program
  • Left former agency in good standing
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test
  • Possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months
  • Binocular vision of 20/25 corrected
  • Weight in proportion to height
  • No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors
  • No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening
  • Must apply for a DCJS waiver (department will assist with paperwork)
  • Pre-employment drug testing
  • FBI criminal background check
  • Education/degree verification required
  • Must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment
  • Must pass a more stringent criminal background check for CJIS Security Policy

Nice To Haves

  • Pre-certified officers who are denied a DCJS waiver will have the option to attend a full basic academy in lieu of disqualification of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an assigned patrol vehicle
  • Patrol assigned areas of the county for traffic and criminal violations

  • Conduct victim, witness and suspect interviews
